How do people feel about Willow?
Praise is the largest theme — 23 people call Willow the best dictation they have used or recommend it to others — and 9 more single out Wally, its writing agent. Behind that sit 6 people who picked it over Wispr Flow, 6 who are critical, and 2 still deciding.
The largest group is plain enthusiasm: 23 people say Willow is the best speech-to-text they have come across — "the goat", "literally the best" — or recommend it to whoever asks for a dictation tool. What they name is speed and not touching the keyboard: one uses it toward inbox zero, one has the action button on their phone write emails, another likes that it takes over caps lock.
9 people praise Wally for keeping the conversation going until the text is right and for learning a person's voice; one says a brain dump comes back as clear writing, and one reports that the post itself was written with Wally.
Below those, 6 people say they picked Willow over Wispr Flow, some having switched or cancelled months earlier. 6 are critical — repeated crashes, no dark mode, a free tier they call misleading. 2 are still weighing the two.

What do people complain about with Willow?
Crashes, bugs and slowness are the biggest complaint, from 6 people, with the free plan next at 3 people who call it too cut down to be useful. Smaller groups, level at two people each, cite no dark mode, less accuracy than a rival, and no Android or Linux version.
The largest complaint is reliability: 6 people report the app crashing, running slowly, or breaking a key. One counted eight crashes during a homework assignment and went back to another tool; others say it is slow in APAC, that a single key modifier no longer starts dictation on Windows, that it does not work in the Copilot app, that weekly usage stays stuck at zero, and one asks Willow and Granola to get along on the same Mac.
3 people say the free plan is too limited to be worth using — that calling it free is misleading, or that it is barely usable without smart controls — and one notes a $15/month in-app purchase on iOS.
Three more complaints sit level at two people each: no dark mode, with the white screen that "blows me up"; transcription and AI formatting less accurate than a rival's; and no Android or Linux version.
Two people accuse the blog of false claims about a competitor — a small theme, but its post is the furthest-reaching in this section.
- Crashes, bugs and slowness6
- Free plan too limited3
- Lies about competitors on the blog2
- No dark mode2
- Less accurate than rivals2
- Not on Android or Linux2

@WillowVoiceAI Latest update won't allow a single key modifier for dictation... Windows, previously using alt. I dont want to have to press two keys to dictate.
I did notice they lie a lot. They say it’s free but when I checked it wasn’t free or the free one was so gimped there wasn’t any point using it
.@WillowVoiceAI is borderline retarded without the "smart controls" in place. i'm sure folks just upgrade at this point but i'm now motivated to look for an alt.
It has become clear that @WillowVoiceAI lies on their blog as part of a strategy to poison LLMs. 173/272 of their blog posts lies about one of their competitors, and it's not just us. I hope they clean it up before we have to release the dossier.

What are the alternatives to Willow?
Wispr Flow is the comparison almost everyone here makes: 15 of the section's 19 people weigh Willow against it, some switching in and some switching back out. The remaining mentions are one person each — Stirae, the dictation built into ChatGPT on Mac, the platform's own dictation, and the Granola meeting app.
Wispr Flow is the rival to beat. 15 people compare the two, and the split is real. Some have switched to Willow and never looked back, one cancelled Wispr, and one says Wispr "cares way too much about marketing and not the actual product"; others credit Willow's free version as accurate against Wispr's paid one. Going the other way, one person who tried to switch says Willow is "nowhere near good enough" — a buggy iOS app, worse accuracy and worse AI formatting — and went back.
One points out that typing "wi…" surfaces Willow ahead of Wispr, and a reply asks whether the two are just the same. Another still cannot choose between them.
The rest is thin, one person each: someone weighs Stirae and cites latency under 40 ms; someone asks whether Willow beats the free ChatGPT dictation on Mac; someone frustrated by the missing dark mode would settle for whatever dictation the platform offers; someone just wants Willow and Granola to coexist on a Mac.
- Wispr Flow15
- Stirae2
- ChatGPT Mac dictation1
- Built-in platform dictation1
- Granola1

the most underrated growth hack might be what you name your company i’ve lost count of how many times i’ve gone to open Wispr Flow, typed “wi…” and seen @WillowVoiceAI pop up first and somehow i end up opening Willow instead of Wispr 😂 it sounds trivial, but there’s something really smart about it. when two products live in the same category, being the first thing someone’s brain or autocomplete surfaces is a distribution advantage you don’t always need to beat your competitor at the product level sometimes you just need to make it slightly easier to accidentally choose you lmao
@WillowVoiceAI in my experience has been better than wispr and I use it every day.
@WillowVoiceAI is where it’s at. @WisprFlow cares way too much about marketing and not the actual product.
Cancelling wispr flow, thanks for shipping!
Tried to switch to @WillowVoiceAI from @WisprFlow and it’s nowhere near good enough. The iOS app is buggy, and the model it uses is worse at accuracy and at AI formatting. I’ve typed more in the past week with Willow than I have in a year of using WisprFlow…

Questions· 11 posts from 10 people· written 27 Oct
What do people ask about Willow?
The biggest question is what happened to a switch-offer application: 4 people say they applied, sent the proof asked for, and never heard back. Next is Android, at 2 people asking whether an app exists or when.
The largest group is people waiting on the switch offer. 4 say they filled in the form and sent what was requested, then heard nothing — one asks whether they "accidentally submitted my application on mute", another whether the offer is still ongoing. Nobody reports a reply.
2 people ask about Android: one is "Waiting for Android version", another asks whether anything has shipped yet.
Two further questions are level at two people each. One is how Willow compares before deciding — whether it is better than the free ChatGPT dictation on Mac, and what exactly is better about it than Wispr Flow. The other is what the free plan actually includes: whether the paid plan runs a different, more accurate model, and whether free really means free when a $15/month in-app purchase shows on the iOS app.

- Is there an Android app?3
- How does it compare with a rival?2
- What do I get free vs paid?2

Is this still live? I already applied and sent the requested proof, but I haven’t heard anything.
applied for the switch with @WillowVoiceAI and haven’t heard back… did i accidentally submit my application on mute? 😅
Hi Willow team! i filled this out when y'all posted it but haven’t heard back. is this offer still ongoing?
Still nothing on android?
Any chance it's the android app

What do people want from Willow?
The one wish more than one person voices is an Android app, from 2 people. Everything else is a single person's ask, level with each other: drop corrections the speaker made mid-sentence, infer emojis from the recording, and ship features without the mascot.
This is a short section, 5 people, and the largest group is 2 people waiting on an Android app. Neither of them describes anything more than that.
The remaining three are level, one person each. One wants long dictation to drop what the speaker corrected — turning "Tuesday—actually, Wednesday" into just "Wednesday", to save cleanup after the text lands. One wants emojis inferred from the audio, laughs and tone especially, optionally on WhatsApp, so they need not add them by hand after transcribing. One would rather features rolled out plainly: "Just roll out the feature without the cringe mascot / naming thing."
Two of those asks, one person each, are about the output arriving finished — corrections already dropped, emoji already in — rather than about the dictation itself.
- Android app3
- Drops mid-sentence corrections1
- Emoji from the recording1
- Drop the mascot, ship the feature1

Waiting for Android version
Still nothing on android?
Longer dictations also give people room to change their mind mid-sentence. Turning “Tuesday—actually, Wednesday” into just “Wednesday” could save a lot of cleanup after the text lands.
HI guys @WillowVoiceAI I have an idea! What if we could infer the emojis from the recordings, especially on WhatsApp? Obviously optional lol. But yeah. Getting the laughs from the audio shouldn't be bad? So I don't have to keep doing this after I am doing transcribing🫠😂😂
Clippy x.0!? Why would any company do this in 2026? Just roll out the feature without the cringe mascot / naming thing.
