How do people feel about Squarespace?

Most people here are happy with it: 23 of the 44 people in the section praise it, while 16 have turned against it. The praise is mostly for getting a site live without the technical work; the complaint is that it is no longer worth paying for.

The largest group says it does the job and says so plainly: recommending it when someone asks what to use, crediting the forums when they got stuck, and noting a site stayed up on a day the rest of the internet was broken. The two furthest-travelling posts in the section are both praise. Several like what they get for the price, calling it "extraordinarily cheap" and pointing to SSL handled for them; others credit AI bots now doing their setup, design and custom code.

16 people are done with it: they call it a scam or "obsolete", say a Squarespace site now looks cheap, and warn others off because building in it makes them want to pull their hair out. Several have cancelled, one citing $1,000 a year saved. Mixed feelings (3 people) come down to design limits and a vague maybe-switch; 2 people are still starting out and have no verdict.

Just so you know I'm just an average users not even a coder, just a construction business owner full time and Grok Bot has legit changed my whole efficiency of my business and life. Built a website in 30 days with Grok, better than squarespace what I've been using for 10+ years. I've had more organic searches and clients visit my page in 6 months than the combined duration of my entire squarespace plan. What a waste of money and time. I also now use Grok to help create my safety forms which include tailgate meetings on site for my guys as its all automated rather than having wasted paper forms everyday. Foreman loves it as it saves so much time as its automatically uploaded to head office so one less task to worry about. Grok Bot checks my emails and notifies me what is priority or reminders, helps drafts emails for quick edits and replies. I could go on and on, this is just absolutely Game Changing and it consistently gets better everyday. Thank you Everyone at X and Cursor team for this amazing product.

What do people complain about with Squarespace?

Cost is the most common complaint, at 11 people, followed by support you cannot reach (6) and not being able to take your site with you (5). The price gripes are specific: a bigger bill on renewal, or a higher plan needed for something simple.

People name the numbers: a first month at $19 a month that moves to $45 right before autopay, an annual plan raised from $190 to $220, $300 a year for what one calls "paying for nothing". A few run into smaller walls — paying extra to track clicks, needing a higher plan to offer a discount, business tiers just to drop the footer watermark.

6 people describe being ignored: a cancel request met with silence, repeated follow-ups on a pricing question with nothing back, and no phone number to call at all. Accounts and sites go dark alongside this — a website and email down six days, 2FA codes not accepted, a password expired with no reset link, a domain account that also held someone's Google admin access.

5 people warn the site does not leave with you: images in an export still point back to Squarespace and break on cancel, and cancelling means losing data and infrastructure. Domains (4 people) and design limits (4 people) are level with each other and draw less.

It's not about making money People don't get it People pay $20/mo to Anthropic or ChatGPT so it helps them with their daily activities Instead of $20/mo to Adobe + $20/mo Canva + $20/mo to Microsoft 365 + $20/mo to Grammarly + $20/mo to Squarespace etc.

Might end up finding another place to Make my website for the manga. Squarespace was only charging 19$ a month for the first month to host my site. Then it "updates" to the 45 a month plan right before autopay? Nope I caught that shit. gotta find a free website maker.

Squarespace raised my annual plan from $190 to $220, and a few years ago, I would’ve renewed without thinking. This time, I rebuilt my entire portfolio in a few hours. I recreated the same pages, design, and UX details, set up the SEO, and connected the domain I already owned. It now runs on Vercel for $0 in hosting. I originally chose Squarespace because I didn’t want the hassle of building and managing a website from scratch. That convenience was worth paying for, but the cost of getting it elsewhere has changed enough that I finally questioned the subscription. That puts pressure on businesses built around “we’ll do the technical part for you.” When customers can handle that part in an afternoon, you need another reason for them to keep paying. I see the same shift in brand marketing. As building a website and producing content become more accessible, being able to make things and post consistently gives a brand less of an advantage. You still need to understand your audience and have something to say that they actually want to hear. That’s why I believe organic and brand marketing is going to be the next luxury and coveted strategies when it comes to marketing in the next few years. This is why, frequency, focuses soley on this offering to help the next wave of brands stick around for the long term by developing a point of view people recognize and making it come through in the content. My portfolio was easy to recreate because the thinking behind it already existed. We help brands do the thinking that makes their content worth creating in the first place. BTW if you want to check out this new website- it's link

@squarespace I have been communicating via email. Got far enough for you to ask if I wanted to cancel the account, I responded yes. Haven’t gotten a reply…ghosted. You guys are horrible

What are the alternatives to Squarespace?

The thing people weigh it against most is an AI assistant that builds the site instead: 10 people name Claude, ChatGPT or Grok Bot, more than any rival builder. Cloudflare comes next (8 people), then WordPress (7).

The AI stories are usually from people who are not developers: a construction business owner who says a Grok-built site ended 10 years of paying Squarespace, an agency site moved in about two hours with GPT-6.1, a father who "struggled" with Squarespace and Wix and redid both with Claude. What they want is a site they own and can change by asking, often hosted free.

The Cloudflare posts are about hosting and domains rather than a builder you design in: moving a domain off Squarespace after the Google Domains takeover, putting a static site on Pages for nothing, or keeping Squarespace for the site and Cloudflare for the domains. WordPress goes both ways — people leave it for Squarespace to avoid updates and hosting, and people leave Squarespace for it, or say the concepts are easier there.

Wix is weighed in both directions (5 people), including one switching from Wix to Squarespace over editing trouble. A long tail of single mentions — Webflow, Framer, Shopify, Etsy, Carrd, Neocities, Patreon — rounds it out.

Why I personally feel Ai and especially Grok Bot is underrated. I run a landscape construction company for 17 years now, and I'm not a coder. Last year I started using Grok and built my own website from scratch. That ended 10 years of paying Squarespace every year, and now I have full control and my own analytics. It saved me money and time. Now AI handles most of my daily admin: email drafts, safety forms, crew attendance, scheduling and month-to-month tracking. I wanted to test Grok Bot and automation, so I built NextAiBreakout in one day, an AI news site that tracks the road to superintelligence. Then on October 16 my brother and I built an Android app in one day with a team of Grok Bots. Now we're finishing its website and getting it onto Google Play with Grok and Claude, and I'll share it once it's public. My brother was so excited and surprised is now going to he a Ai subscriber and work on his own projects rather than use my usage lol I'll share what worked and what didn't. Everyone should get the chance to free up their time and save money. This is my website I created from scratch with idea of animation and layout I've always wanted. link

I don't do calls but I talk to people of course My personal trainer builds her own reports, apps, dashboards with AI My girlfriend builds her own apps with Claude My best friend's girlfriends build apps, some of them taking off on TikTok and making lots of money Local restaurants use AI to vibecode their website and stopped hiring devs or even using Squarespace It's changing fast

My very untechnical dad struggled with two different sites with both wix and squarespace. He redid both sites with Claude and moved them to cloudflare in a week. It made me think. Claude is literally easier for him than these products that are supposed to be easy.

I got off Wordpress for my own site 20yrs ago and went to Squarespace. Wordpress just requires so many updates for a small org to keep up with. The nonprofit I've worked with inherited a WP site, and it got hacked. I moved them to Squarespace to avoid hiring someone to host it.

Questions· 11 posts from 9 people· written 27 Oct

What do people ask about Squarespace?

Two questions are level at 4 people each: whether a Squarespace site can do a particular thing, and how to get back into an account. The rest of the section is one person asking what is wrong with Acuity.

The capability questions come from people peering at a site from outside. Someone who does not code asks whether the whole site can really be copied out of inspect element, given the backend sits on Squarespace's servers; the same person wonders whether Squarespace sites can carry interactive elements that need a function. Another asks whether a site built with Squarespace but hosted on GoDaddy is still vulnerable. A fourth asks users whether they would leave if they could take the whole site, code and all — noting the option does not exist.

The account questions are people already locked out and asking publicly for help: 2FA codes not accepted on a follow-up to an earlier ticket, a password expired with no reset link even after the recovery form, and a domain login that also blocked recovery of a Google admin account.

1 person asks what is going on with Acuity — services showing as unavailable, why maintenance was scheduled at that hour, and whether customers get a credit.

Is this even possible? Is the entire websites code in inspect element? Idk how coding works but isn't there backend server stuff you wouldn't be able to copy because it'd be on squarespace servers?

If it's just the look of the page yea it can copy I think. It's a good idea actually Idk if squarespace websites can have some functionality like interactive elements on the page or something that would need a function

@squarespace @SquarespaceHelp @12SquareSupport I need help accessing my account. My password expired but I'm not getting reset link. I've confirmed my identity and filled out recovery form via your website, please help!

@SquarespaceHelp > Hi, I'm locked out of my Squarespace account (projectcartv@gmail.com) — my 2FA codes aren't being accepted. Follow-up to ticket 14731780 from Oct 5, where Brian J. helped me regain access. I also need to clear a hold on link once I'm in. Can you help me?

Wishes· 1 post· written 27 Oct

What do people want from Squarespace?

1 person asks for fingerprint or face sign-in on any device, instead of fetching an emailed confirmation code. That is the whole of this section.

The wish comes out of a concrete irritation: when the login confirmation code does not arrive, the email has to be opened on another device to get it. The fix they describe is a scan — log in, place a finger or take a face scan, done — on whatever device they are using. No one else in the 1 people posting on this page asks for a feature in those terms.

  • Fingerprint or face login1

...and when it is squarespace that log in confirmation is gone. You need to open the email in another device to get the code. I would design finger print and face. Any device, log in, place tinger, face scan, done.....auto face recognition every 30 sec.
