Hailuo (MiniMax) on X

People post finished work made with Hailuo and praise how it handles faces, motion and 2D art, while testing it shot for shot against Kling, Wan and Seedance. What a clip costs in credits is the recurring practical complaint.

How do people feel about Hailuo (MiniMax)?

Most of the talk is people showing work they are pleased with: 28 people praise Hailuo outright, with faces, physics and motion singled out by 11 people. The reservation, from 7 people, is that it is good without being the best.

Praise is aimed at the output rather than the interface: faces that hold while the background moves, streaking light and reflections, and slow motion one horror fan calls "unmatched for dread". Anime and flat 2D art come up repeatedly, with H3 credited by name for keeping a 2D character 2D, and people post finished short films, music videos and gag clips with Hailuo credited in the post.

A different strand of praise is personal — one creator used Hailuo to bring their late father back on screen — and plenty of posts are plain delight that one photo made a clip that fooled friends.

The caveat is ranking-shaped. Users who place Hailuo in a list put it near the top but not first ("hailuo was kinda good too"), and one cites a test where Hailuo 2.3 scored highest on safety at 3.63 and ninth on quality at 2.95. Only 3 people recommend it flatly as the tool to use.

Over the past 2 years I have worked across campaigns for some of the largest AI labs and tech ecosystems coming out of Asia: ByteDance (CapCut, Dreamina, Pippit, Gauth), Tencent (Hunyuan, Ima Studio, QClaw), Alibaba (Tongyi Lab, Accio), MiniMax (Hailuo AI), link SenseTime, and Huawei. From an engineering standpoint, their models are extraordinary. Hailuo AI produces human micro expressions and physics in video that rival anything in Silicon Valley. Tencent's Hunyuan3D and Alibaba's Qwen and Wan models sit at the top of global open source leaderboards. Yet when Asian AI companies launch into the US, UK, and European markets, their biggest hurdle is almost never product quality. It is the narrative gap. Eastern tech marketing often leads with exhaustive feature matrices, benchmark charts and superlative claims . Western developers, creators and B2B buyers immediately pull back from that style. They want understated confidence, a single sharp use case, and proof from a peer they already trust. Watch how MiniMax turned Hailuo AI into a Western creator favorite, or how ByteDance scaled CapCut, Dreamina, and Pippit AI. Instead of lecturing users on model architecture, they seeded the tools with native creators who showed wild, specific workflows like turning a single product link into a TikTok Shop video in Pippit or testing cinematic camera pans in Hailuo. Great technology travels across borders effortlessly but trust has to be translated into the local dialect. When global AI labs let native storytellers frame the product around how Western users actually work, adoption explodes.

It's Spooky Season… and the vampires are on the rise. 🩸 Used ChatGPT to turn my boyfriend and me into this vampire couple, then brought them to life with MiniMax Hailuo 2K on @Hailuo_AI Slow push-in, cold predatory gaze, glowing red eyes, fangs, drifting fog, flickering candles, and a full moon over the gothic castle. Pure cinematic horror vibes. #MiniMaxDesign #HailuoAI

This is f**king cinema. Tell me why anime openings aren't cut like this yet. 25 seconds called Final Bet, made on Hailuo, and it plays like the first minute of a season premiere.

Most people thought I was crazy. 😂 The hate was overwhelming back then. When AI video generation first became possible, I used Hailuo to bring my late father back to life on screen, just to hear him speak again. You have no idea how much that meant to me. One of my deepest wishes was to have just one more conversation with him, even if it was only possible through AI. ❤️ But instead of understanding the emotion behind it, the backlash was so intense that my account ended up getting banned. 😅 Those were difficult times in 2023. People saw artificial intelligence. I saw a chance to reconnect with someone I loved and missed terribly. And despite everything, I never stopped creating.

What do people complain about with Hailuo (MiniMax)?

Credits and cost are the biggest complaint here (6 people): what a clip costs in credits, and running out mid-project. Drift off the source photo and prompts ignored or refused are named by 2 people each, and one notes that clips are short.

Credit arithmetic runs through the section. A creator prices a 5-second move off a single still at 35 credits and says that is "the part that decides if the shot stays", so only the beats that need motion get generated. One, working with the credits they had left, notes that whenever they want to make a video no service has credits; another answers that the Hailuo plan they use comes in under two euros; a third remembers the early free-unlimited allowance as the reason Hailuo was great. Not all of it is complaint: one praises how much motion it gets for the money.

The rest is about control. Longer than five seconds, one user says, Hailuo "starts inventing rooms the photo never showed"; another says faces drift between cuts, eye spacing shifting and the jaw softening. Two report prompts the tool would not do: refused outright in one test, and in Hailuo Music a detailed prompt with 90% of it ignored. One notes clips stop at seven seconds.

35 credits for a 5-second Hailuo move off one still is the part that decides if the shot stays. I only send the beats that actually need motion and leave the rest as the locked photo.

Nicolas Cage just refused to license his face for AI. Good. Here's what nobody's saying: the reason actors are right to be paranoid isn't likeness theft. It's that no current model can hold a face across two cuts anyway. Runway, Kling, Hailuo — they all drift. Eye spacing shifts half a millimeter. The jaw softens. By scene four your "character" is a cousin of the person you cast. So the industry panic is aimed at a capability that doesn't exist yet. We're arguing about digital replicas while the actual tool can't keep the same nose for 90 seconds. The flip: consent debates assume the tech already works. It doesn't. What we have is expensive face-shaped noise. The real conversation should be — why are we racing to license faces before anyone's solved continuity? Fix the memory problem first. Then panic. Anyone building right now who says they've cracked character consistency across 10+ cuts: show me the 10 cuts. Not the hero frame. #ZipX #Screenwriting ...

What are the alternatives to Hailuo (MiniMax)?

Head-to-head tests are the largest theme (6 people) and Kling is the most-named rival (5 people); next come edits that mix Hailuo with other generators (4 people) and Wan (3 people).

A common form of comparison runs the same prompt through Hailuo and one rival and lets the clips answer: H3 against Kling 4.0 on a flat 2D anime look, one image through four or six models, the same rainy-town prompt across tools. One user works the price per second — MiniMax H3 about $0.08, Kling 4.0 $0.157, Seedance 2.5 about $0.23 — and notes H3 stops at 15 seconds where Kling and Seedance reach 30.

Kling is named for camera control and motion coherence, and once for a 40-minute queue against Hailuo's minute for photo to video; a beginner is told to start with "Kling or Hailuo". Mixing is routine: Hailuo H3 alongside Midjourney, PixVerse, Kling or Seedance in one edit, with one user hiding each model's "colour fingerprint" behind a grain pass. Wan is rated better on scene detail and multi-camera work where H3 has the wider facial range. Pika, Runway, Google Flow, Seedance, Grok Imagine and free local runners each get a mention.

Gave Hailuo H3 and Kling 4.0 the exact same prompt and character sheet. Watch the last shot: one looks up at the star with her, the other forgets she's there. H3 gets the 2D anime feel way closer for me. (top @Hailuo_AI H3, bottom Kling 4.0, prompt in the replies)

What do people ask about Hailuo (MiniMax)?

Mostly people want a verdict: 2 people ask which AI filmmaking tool is best, with Hailuo one name on a five-tool list. One asks whether clips can be shared.

The asking here is a shortlist, not a how-to. The same question is posted three times from two accounts, wording and numbering identical: "Which is the best AI filmmaking tool right now?", then Google Flow, Kling AI, Runway, Seedance and Hailuo AI, an invitation to name another, and a closing ask for "the best results". Hailuo is listed last of the five each time.

The other question is narrower, asked in Indonesian: whether Hailuo AI has a sharing feature. Nothing in these posts asks what a clip costs or how far the free allowance stretches.

What do people want from Hailuo (MiniMax)?

The wish with more than one voice is character consistency: 2 people want Hailuo to hold a face across shots, the drift they say it still shows. One user wants a way to hide each model's colour fingerprint when clips from several generators are cut together.

Both consistency posts come from people making longer work. One, producing an AI short drama, says the best model depends on the shot — Kling for motion coherence, Hailuo for stylized looks — and that neither beats a locked character-reference workflow for dialogue-heavy scenes; what they ask for is a test round on multi-shot consistency "rather than single-clip beauty shots". The other describes the failure closely: eye spacing shifting half a millimetre, the jaw softening, so that by scene four the character is a cousin of the one cast, and names Runway, Kling and Hailuo as all drifting.

The single other wish is for a finishing step: cutting Seedance, Hailuo and HeyGen together "works best when one grain pass hides each model's color fingerprint".

  • Hold characters across shots2
  • Hide the model's colour fingerprint1

Comparison tests like this are gold. Our practical take from producing an AI short drama: the 'best' model depends on the shot. Kling tends to win on motion coherence, Hailuo on stylized looks — but for dialogue-heavy drama scenes, neither beats a locked character-reference workflow. Would love a round 2 focused on multi-shot character consistency rather than single-clip beauty shots — that's where series production lives or dies.
