How do people feel about Stripe?

Praise is measured and outnumbers disappointment: 14 people credit a specific Stripe feature, from tax approval to usage billing, while 5 describe being let down and 5 are plain fans. 2 warn that legitimate merchants are treated as suspects.

The largest group is specific rather than loud: 14 people praise a named feature, not the brand. Tax approval is "a big milestone for a SaaS", usage billing makes per-task pricing for agent work easier to run, and people credit automatic dispute handling, integration notices, in-chat payments, sandboxing and asking for MRR in plain English. A balance for agents with limits gets the same kind of nod: "limits are what make people trust it".

Two smaller groups are level at 5 and 5 people. The disappointed describe Stripe as unreliable for businesses, cite an account blocked after months of paperwork, payouts taking eight days and automated email support running since September, and one says they would switch. The fans are plain about it: a payment notification that made someone's birthday, an app opened many times a day, a joke about marrying Stripe.

2 people warn others off, saying merchants are treated as suspects by default; one seven-year merchant with no disputes describes being labelled high risk after a client's mistaken chargeback.

honestly billing clients by the hour for agent work feels kinda broken now. the agent finishes in 4 minutes and the invoice says 0.1 hrs lol @stripe usage billing makes per task pricing way easier to run than it used to be so what are you actually charging, per task, per outcome or flat monthly?

This is crazy for them to do. Seeing similar stories online of this happening to other ppl as well. Makes @stripe seem like a very unreliable platform for businesses to use, which is tough since that’s what’s supposed to set them apart from other banking options

What do people complain about with Stripe?

Frozen accounts and held funds are the biggest complaint: 13 people describe an account closed or frozen with money still inside. Next comes support that never reaches a human, at 9 people.

The largest group is 13 people describing accounts frozen or closed with money still inside. They report a bank account and company card frozen with no warning, payouts held until February 2027; a balance still held seven months after closure, past the 180-day period; and explanations that "keep changing" while support cases are closed unanswered. Several say they had no chargebacks or disputes; one notes a three-day appeal window. A merchant in Brazil says they have filed complaints with the central bank and Procon-SP.

9 people describe support that never reaches a person: automated replies, "come back in 30 days", copy-paste rejections, and emails exchanged daily since 12 September without a human. Some ask for escalation to a senior risk or complaints manager.

Smaller groups name integrations and onboarding: a payment-form tool that hangs until timeout, a docs link that 404s, a connector that disconnects in chat apps, months of paperwork, a new business rejected before a single charge, a balance screen that hides the fee, and eight-day payouts.

With 0 warning @stripe froze my bank account, company card and said they would begin refunding every customer payment I have 12 transactions with enterprise customers. All of whom are active users and I call regularly I’ve had ZERO refunds, complaints or chargebacks! I even have signed Docusign’s! (They’re all happy to send back the money once they get refunded) Stripe, after freezing everything asked for more evidence where I provided all of this. 10h later they rejected it, said the decision is final, customer support can’t help, I’m no longer a customer and they will HOLD MY MONEY until February 2027. All of my company’s money including angel cheques are on Stripe Treasury! Luckily I have other cheques coming this week to a Mercury account I opened, otherwise this could’ve been really bad! Also at this point every single email had been autogenerated and I’ve been given no reason! On Sunday I emailed customer support, finally got a human to respond and asked them to review providing even more information. I even got some customers to email me saying they consented and are happy with the purchase. That also got rejected with an autogenerated email a couple hours later, where they said it was “business model risk”. trylight ai charges a monthly subscription in exchange for usage credits on the platform. A very basic business model!!! It's insane that they can take this drastic an action, have no steps to resolve the issue or what the issue even is and make it this hard to talk to a human. I used Stripe for my last startup for 2 years and had a great experience, would love to continue being a customer! @stripesupport @Stripe

@Stripe @StripeSupport shut down my business account and are holding my money. Their explanations keep changing, and now theyre closing my support cases without answers. I've verified the transactions they question (from a friend out of all things)

@stripe WARNING TO BUSINESS OWNERS: Be careful using Stripe. My account was closed over 180 days ago, and Stripe has kept my remaining balance frozen for over 7 months. Their 180-day holding period has passed, yet I'm still fighting to get MY money back.

Hello Stripe Support I have an issue with a payment and I already sent you an email but did not receive a reply. Please assist me as soon as possible. Thank you. @Stripe

Hey @stripe @stripesupport , it’s now October 21st. We’ve been exchanging emails back and forth with your ridiculous automated email support every day, multiple times a day since September 12. All over a simple misunderstanding on your automated triggers part. Is there no human at Stripe I can resolve this with? I though this company was great but now idk!

What are the alternatives to Stripe?

Everything people weigh Stripe against has one person behind it: Dodo Payments, Whop, Revolut and crypto-native processors are level. Two of the four are picked for a specific fit rather than because Stripe failed overall.

A founder running several SaaS products says they still use Stripe for the others but moved one to Dodo Payments because a co-founder's Indian residency made Stripe legally complex; the first live payment has since gone through. Whop is named by someone asking for a processor that does not freeze money, after saying Stripe and PayPal hold funds and disrupt businesses — the same person thanks Whop for easy onboarding.

Revolut is tipped as the up-and-coming name, with the claim that it "should pose a threat to Stripe too sooner than later". Crypto-native processors are named for crypto flows, alongside a claim that Stripe's risk engine sends transactions under $10k outside its core use cases, travel bookings among them, to manual review.

Each of the four themes has a single person, so none leads.

Polar kicked us out. They contacted us last week to ask to announce they stop to work with companies generating AI videos and need us to migrate to another payment provider 😅 So we migrated @Subclip_app to @dodopayments I use @stripe for all my other SaaS but my co-founder Samik is Indian and it was complex legally to use Stripe for Subclip so we had to find other solutions. Live production integration has validated by our first dodo payment customer :D Can't wait to see more of these 😊

@lemonsqueezy rejecting people that sell digital products even though that’s why they were created in the first place. @whop @GadzhiIman hello sir, thank you for easy onboarding. 🤝 P.S. since @stripe and @PayPal loves to freeze people’s money and don’t give it back long time and mess with their business this way, can someone build new gen payment processor business? Oh, wait a minute, @whop can handle that too??

@PayPal and @Payoneer are nearing the end of their shelf life. @stripe and @Revolut are poised to take centre stage. Revolut, true to its name, revolutionises the way we transact not just the way we bank which should pose a threat to Stripe too sooner than later.

Questions· 13 posts from 12 people· written 27 Oct

What do people ask about Stripe?

The most-asked question is why Stripe's payment-form tool hangs until timeout, at 4 people. Country availability, how agent payments work and how to reach a human are each asked by fewer.

The payment-form question is the largest at 4 people. A developer reports that WebMCP's fill_payment_form fills the field and then holds until timeout, degrading performance; the answer offered is that it is a declarative tool, with sample workaround code using Stagehand. Others ask whether the call finishes when focus leaves the field, and whether that workaround breaks once the form's structure shifts.

Country availability is asked by 3 people: how many countries Stripe is active in, "When Brazil?", and whether Stripe's crypto product works in Venezuela.

3 people ask how agent payments work: whether an agent can recover a payment receipt after a timeout, who owns an account once the agent finishes and whether access can be revoked without losing the setup, and whether the fiat balance on Link is actually stablecoins.

2 people ask how to reach a human, from a request for a contact who can help with account migration to whether contacting support through the Stripe login is the right route.

  • Why does the payment form call hang?4
  • Available in my country?3
  • How do agent payments work?3
  • How do I reach a human at Stripe?3

Hey @stripe 👋 Your WebMCP fill_payment_form fills the field, then ghosts my agent. Every webmcp call to that specific tool fills the form, but holds up until timeout. Is this a fill tool or a long-term commitment 😅? Big perf degradation so far... Happy to share a repro 🫡

Wishes· 11 posts from 10 people· written 27 Oct

What do people want from Stripe?

Wishes are scattered: eight themes have one person each, and the only one with more, 2 people, asks for per-agent identity and a hard spending cap.

The one request with more than one voice is about agents: give each ops agent its own identity and spend ceiling, because "shared keys turn one bad loop into a company-wide bill", rotate credentials on a timer, log every grant, and make revoking one agent leave the others working. Related asks are a human gate on any commitment over a set dollar amount, and per-agent spending limits, named as "the next thing i want to see".

The rest are single asks. Dark mode for Stripe's interfaces comes up over eye strain, with a request to prioritise it. Someone wants switching between accounts to take under five seconds. One person wishes Stripe would launch where they are instead of local payment platforms. Others want payment links that expire or work once so a leaked link is not an open door, an email and bank account for AI bots, a Plaid connection to link all financial accounts, a working framework for agentic payments and commerce, and a cap on each automatic reorder.

  • Spend caps and identity for agents3
  • Dark mode1
  • Faster account switching1
  • Come to our country1
  • Expiring, one-time payment links1
  • Bank accounts for AI bots1

Give every ops agent its own identity and its own spend ceiling. Shared keys turn one bad loop into a company-wide bill. Rotate on a timer, log every grant, and revoking one agent must not touch the rest. @Stripe @OpenAI

If two AIs can negotiate a discount, they can also lock you into a bad renewal next quarter. Put a human gate on any commit over a set dollar amount, and keep the full transcript where finance can actually read it. @stripe

IMO: You shouldn't have to experience eye strain to use modern web platforms, or otherwise be forced to replicate ENTIRE interfaces and UX with AI solely to have dark mode. Please prioritize this @stripe and Laravel Cloud (@laravel) 🥲🙏

Payment links are convenient and easy to over-share. Worth pairing with an expiry and a one-time use where the context allows, so a leaked link is not an open door.
