Praise leads: 72 of 274 people in reception call Dodo good or the best gateway, and 19 post first sales through it. Complaints centre on approval waits and accounts or payment links cut off without warning, and Stripe is the comparison the largest group makes.

How do people feel about Dodo Payments?

Most of the 118 people here praise Dodo: 72 call it good or the best gateway, naming easy integration, a clean interface and the cha-ching sale notification. 19 post first sales or revenue milestones through it, and 8 say it has let them down.

Praise is broad rather than feature-by-feature. People describe a simple integration, a "clean interface, reliable and trustworthy" product and support that answers at midnight; the cha-ching notification gets named on its own, for lifting a bad day and for waking people up. Several explain the pull as being a merchant of record that handles taxes, which one six-month user calls "far better" than a gateway, and Indian founders credit it with cross-border selling without a US company.

Milestones are small and concrete — first sale, $100, $500, first international customer, $1,000 in revenue — usually posted with the notification or the buyer's country as the detail. The one that travelled furthest came from a team that moved over after Polar dropped them.

The disappointed are 8 people, with practical reasons: renewals that failed because checkout was set to one-time, a frozen account with payouts disabled, and a builder who calls the service a liability below $1,000 a month.

Polar kicked us out. They contacted us last week to ask to announce they stop to work with companies generating AI videos and need us to migrate to another payment provider 😅 So we migrated @Subclip_app to @dodopayments I use @stripe for all my other SaaS but my co-founder Samik is Indian and it was complex legally to use Stripe for Subclip so we had to find other solutions. Live production integration has validated by our first dodo payment customer :D Can't wait to see more of these 😊

What do people complain about with Dodo Payments?

15 of the 50 people with a complaint say approval or verification took too long, and 12 say an account, payment link or live payment was cut off without warning. Slow support, fees and rejected signups make up the rest, in smaller numbers.

Waiting is the most common friction. People report a promised 72-hour verification running past a week, product-info reviews holding up a launch, directory listings queued for weeks, and re-verification on an existing SaaS; a motion-design studio describes being sent through agents with long turnaround. One calls payment approval "the silent launch blocker".

The second cluster is work stopped on a live business: accounts flagged as dormant after months without sales, payment links invalidated after a few quiet days, an IP-rights block that took down a whole account, and a warning that two chargebacks will lock an account. People describe payouts disabled with funds still inside, and support email unanswered for days.

Fees come up in 6 people's posts — an extra 1.5% on international cards, the dispute fee, the $50 payout minimum. Signup rejections are about business type: dropshippers, agencies, freelancers and service businesses, with one post listing the fine print that only digital products are supported. A few report cards failing or checkout not loading, including one charged-but-marked-failed case.

Hey @dodopayments Been more than a week since I submitted the verification application Yet no response / confirmation It says 72 hours But its been more than a week Cmon this is insanely annoying

What's the point of having a support email, @dodopayments , if urgent issues go unanswered for days? My payments have been paused on a live business, and I'm still waiting for a resolution. Payment infrastructure is too critical for this level of support.

@dodopayments If you can't reply to the mail on time then what's the point of running your website? There was some issue going on in my account and I got a mail from compliance team. When I replied to that mail it's been 12 hours no reply from that side not even from your support side. I'm losing customers because you have made my account freeze with giving me an unwanted reason which is not true. Now you guys are not even replying to me. I have trusted your payment gateway system and this is the big fault i have made in my life. I have funds in my account and now you have disabled my payouts also.

What are the alternatives to Dodo Payments?

Stripe is the comparison the largest group makes (22 of 81), and the usual reason to pick Dodo is that Stripe will not serve an India-registered business or the founder's country. Cashfree follows at 11, often offered as a faster-onboarding substitute; Razorpay and Polar are level at 9 and 9.

Against Stripe, the split is between people who cannot use it and people who chose not to. Indian founders say new Stripe accounts are not available to them; others point to tax handling and a simpler setup, with one side-by-side listing GST, VAT and sales tax as the difference. A few stay with Stripe on purpose — an ecosystem already on Stripe Connect, or the ease of doing nothing.

Cashfree is recommended in replies to people stuck in Dodo's approval queue or whose payment links broke; those posts cite quick onboarding and settled support. Razorpay switches are about the opposite: a week on a support ticket while payments were paused, international payments cut over a single chargeback. Polar appears as a company that dropped or declined someone who then moved to Dodo, and Paddle as the slower approval in a head-to-head.

The rest are named once or twice each: Lemon Squeezy, Whop, Gumroad, Kelviq, Creem, PayU, Xflow, Paystack, PayPal.

Dodo Payments vs Stripe for SaaS 👇 - Taxes: Dodo handles applicable global indirect taxes like GST, VAT & sales tax as a Merchant of Record. With Stripe, you generally manage your own tax obligations. - Ownership: Dodo is the MoR while with Stripe, it's generally you. - Onboarding: Dodo is simpler for global SaaS. - Fees: Dodo ~4% + $0.40/transaction. Stripe typically ranges from 2% to 3.9%+ depending on country, payment method & currency conversion. What would you choose or generally choose?

Could be worth reaching out to Cashfree as well and seeing how their onboarding process fits your requirements, since for me, their onboarding was quick so if you have a set launch date then fast onboarding does make sense

Weeks in the queue is a long time when you’re trying to launch. I got my setup verified through Cashfree and was able to go live in minutes, so maybe you can check with them too

Questions· 56 posts from 50 people· written 27 Oct

What do people ask about Dodo Payments?

Two questions are level at 13 and 13 people each: whether they can sign up from their country or as an individual, and whether to use Dodo or Stripe. Smaller groups ask what it costs, how good it actually is, and which payment methods and currencies work.

The eligibility questions are country and paperwork at once: Bangladesh, Nepal, Russia, Mozambique paying Brazil, and one asking how Dodo got into China. Others ask whether a company is required at all — sole proprietor, individual, or a udyam registration — and one needs a manual KYC review because the scanner could not read their country's ID.

The Stripe question is the one that travels: the most-reaching post on the page is simply "I've noticed a lot of you use Dodo Payments instead of Stripe. Why?", and the same question recurs verbatim from UK/EU builders and Indian founders. A related ask is conversion in the US market versus Stripe, and whether Dodo supports everything Stripe does.

Fees are asked as take-home amounts ("if someone tips me $10 how much will I get in India?"), plus the $5 payout and extra charges on self-payments. Others want honest experience on payouts and support, or the full list of payment methods and currencies.

Been looking at alternatives to Stripe for OriginForge Studio. Dodo Payments keeps coming up, especially for people who don’t want the usual Stripe setup headaches. Has anyone here actually switched, or are most of you still sticking with Stripe because it’s just easier to stay? Curious what’s working for smaller UK/EU builders right now.

indie hackers 👋 i just applied for Dodo Payments. for those who've been using it for a while: - how reliable are payouts? - how's customer support? - any unexpected issues? would appreciate the honest version, not just the positives.

What do people want from Dodo Payments?

No wish is shared by many of the 20 people here: lowering fees and dispute charges is the largest at 4 people, and the rest are one or two people each. They want cheaper international and dispute fees, faster or weekly payouts, and payments left running while re-verification happens.

The fee requests are concrete: lower fees on international subscriptions, a smaller dispute fee, and no extra charge on payouts; one asks for domestic transactions to be priced separately. Alongside them sit payout timing — weekly payouts, or money released the moment a customer pays, even at a higher cut — and a plea that Dodo send re-verification first and not pause live payments while it runs, including for dormant accounts.

The remaining asks are single posts, about product detail: don't expire payment links and accounts just because they went quiet, starting credits or a fee discount for solo builders, a checkout with better conversion, a payment-card design that looks better, and an Easy Digital Downloads add-on. A few are about the dashboard: revenue on a home-screen widget, a notification when a customer is retained rather than only on a new sale, and a build-status widget beside the revenue numbers.

Two are policy asks: treat VPS hosting as an approved service, and support the latest SvelteKit in the SDK.

  • Lower fees and cheaper disputes4
  • Faster and weekly payouts2
  • Keep payments live during verification2
  • Credits or discounts for starters1
  • Retained-customer alerts1
  • Revenue on a home-screen widget1
