RevenueCat on X

Praise from small app builders is the largest thread about RevenueCat, alongside a crowd that quotes its subscription benchmarks as reference. Complaints are spread thin across the fee, dashboard quirks and store edge cases, and the question people ask most is why pay the 1% over StoreKit or Stripe.

How do people feel about RevenueCat?

45 of the 83 people here praise RevenueCat outright, and 22 use its charts and State of Subscription Apps report to read their own numbers. 12 admit to checking its notifications compulsively, and 4 describe being let down.

The praise comes mostly from solo builders and small teams reporting shipped apps: subscriptions live on iOS and Android, a first paying user, a first invoice paid gladly. Several name RevenueCat's hackathon, Shipaton, as the push that got an app finished, and stack lists mention it plainly for receipt validation.

Behind it, a second group uses the company's own numbers as a reference: the State of Subscription Apps report is quoted for freemium conversion at 2.1% by day 35, and for trials, where people repeat that more than half of three-day trials cancel on day one.

The dashboard is a genre of its own. People post MRR screenshots as progress, joke about checking RevenueCat "every 5 minutes", and call the first notification a "canon event".

The fee and the disappointment are level at 4 people each: some list the 1% as a small line in a cost breakdown or celebrate paying it, while others suspect faked screenshots, or say Shipaton shook their trust and they are switching.

I built a dating app alone. Now 160 people are paying for it. $1,500 MRR. $18K ARR. In just 4 weeks. 🚀 📱 5,000+ users 🔥 700 daily active users 📈 1,500 weekly active users Building a dating app as a solo founder means doing EVERYTHING: coding, design, marketing, acquisition, support, moderation, compliance… all of it. It’s exhausting, chaotic, and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever built. Forever grateful to @RevenueCat and #Shipaton for pushing me to turn an idea into a real business. And we’re just getting started. 🏃‍♂️

Only 17.3% of newly launched apps hit $1,000 in monthly revenue within their first two years, and freemium apps convert at just 2.1% by day 35 [RevenueCat, State of Subscription Apps 2026]. AI makes that equation harder when every interaction has a cost. Commerce changes the math. McKinsey estimates agentic commerce, where AI can move from recommendation to transaction, could account for $3–5T globally by 2030 [McKinsey, Mar 2026]. Most of that conversation is happening in retail. But wellness, fitness, productivity and everyday life are full of decisions that can move from intelligence → action → commerce. That's the layer Gotchi is building toward. 🦖

After Ritmo hit $5,500 MRR in 40 days, my girlfriend got tired of me checking my RevenueCat notifications every minute. So I started designing Receita: a watch that shows your MRR or ARR with a quick, discreet glance. No unlocking my phone. No getting lost in the dashboard. It’s still a concept but you can help make it real by joining the waitlist at link My girlfriend might thank you even more than I will.

Just hit $40k month with 65% profit margins Apple cut: 15% Local taxes (VAT/GST): averages ~5% Meta ads: $5000 (~13%) Revenuecat: 1% Other software (db, emails, Claude etc): 0.5%

4/4: they complain "there were too many apps to review". you start a hackathon, that will last 2 months. what did you expect? this can not be excuse to not to review apps properly. This event shaked my trust in @RevenueCat . I will switch to @Superwall instead ASAP. #Shipaton

What do people complain about with RevenueCat?

The complaints are spread thin: the 1% revenue share and dashboard annoyances are level at 5 people each, and sandbox errors, free-tier gating, setup time, restore cases and unexplained failed payments are each named by a handful.

On price, people treat the 1% as a line item: one puts it at $100 of a $10,000 revenue month; another lists it among free-tier fine print that starts at $2,500 a month tracked revenue. One reply says a builder pays $3,651 for a nice dashboard, and another calls the bill "getting excessive" and asks for alternatives.

Dashboard complaints are practical: lag scrolling the overview tab, a Rico tab that catches mistaps meant for transactions, surprise notifications, a share link that shows revenue but not the app.

Then a long tail. Sandbox offerings that fail to load, a v2 migration error, a payment error that showed up when RevenueCat was busy and got an app rejected; charts hidden after the free cap and newer charts missing on legacy plans; a setup that ran to hours across Play Console, offerings and webhooks; entitlement mismatches and account switching; purchases flagged only as a "billing issue" with no reason given. Shipaton draws criticism too: a kit full of sponsor tools, no feedback, growth prizes going to people with reach.

Save it for later. Free tiers are great until you hit the fine print. the catch in each one I use: • Supabase: 50k MAU free, but the project pauses after a week without activity • Resend: 3k emails a month, only 100 per day • Clerk: 50k users, counted as "retained", people who come back after day one • Cloudflare Workers: 100k requests a day, 10ms CPU each • RevenueCat: free until $2.5k/month tracked revenue, then 1%

For the love of god RevenueCat team switch up the transactions and rico tabs. My muscle memory makes me keep tapping bottom right for transactions and I keep opening Rico.

i’m i the only one receiving error from @RevenueCat in sandbox? i’m testing an app and keep receiving Error fetching offerings - The operation couldn't be completed. (RevenueCat.OfferingsManager.Error error 1.) weird thing is that few hours ago worked perfectly, and i didn’t change anything and yes i’ve already accepted the new agreement on app store connect

Why I am really disappointed with this year's @RevenueCat shipaton (1/4): 1. the "shipaton kit" was full of vibe-coded useless services. they are there just to advertise these sponsors, instead of helping devs (except OpenRouter credits, it was the most useful) 👇🏻🧵

What are the alternatives to RevenueCat?

Building a replacement leads, named by 6 people, with Stripe and StoreKit 2 level behind at 4 and 4. Stripe comes up as a platform split, web versus the stores, and StoreKit 2 as enough for indie apps.

Self-building takes several shapes: an admin app that replaces RevenueCat's most valued feature, with notification content the builder can tune; Telegram alert bots preferred to RevenueCat or Superwall; a paywall kept non-remote because a remote one would not load a user's selfie. One reply names the trade-off plainly, that maintaining your own subscription logic across store edge cases burns people too.

Stripe is usually a platform choice: Stripe for anything purely web, RevenueCat sitting on top of the stores to skip receipt headaches, and one builder running Stripe, App Store and RevenueCat web on separate rails.

StoreKit 2 is argued to be sufficient: "Most indie iOS apps don't need RevenueCat or Superwall. StoreKit 2 is right there. Change my mind."

Superwall appears as both a switch away and a switch to, one builder leaving it because it cost $49 a month. Adapty is credited with A/B tests and cohorts worth the fee; single posts ask about Dodo Payments and say RevenueCat's experiments beat Firebase Remote Config's A/B testing.

Most indie iOS apps don't need RevenueCat or Superwall. StoreKit 2 is right there. Change my mind. Also, looking to connect with other founders and indie devs

I made something maybe bad today I released the v2 of my language learning app and in this new version I use revenuecat I was using superwall in the past and I changed because I don’t have the $49 for the superwall subscription One user started using the trial of the previous version of my app which has superwall inside Now that I have changed to revenuecat what will happen? Will this user being charged?

Questions· 13 posts· written 27 Oct

What do people ask about RevenueCat?

The largest group here, 6 people, ask why pay the 1% at all: what RevenueCat does that StoreKit, Stripe or native billing does not. Next, 3 ask how purchases reach ad networks and whether attribution holds.

The biggest question is the point of paying: why use RevenueCat with mobile apps, what it is actually for, whether an iOS-only app gains anything over StoreKit 2 when StoreKit 2 is working fine, and whether to go native or use something like RevenueCat. One asks flatly what the difference is between RevenueCat and Stripe.

Attribution comes next: whether the conversions API is what to use for Meta ads, whether the MMP integration is losing events (one reports installs tracking at 80% and purchases at 40% or less), and what to do when subscription signal is too low to read.

Then single questions about risk and transitions: whether a service like this is worth using or just an "additional attack surface", what happens to a user mid-trial when a build moves from Superwall to RevenueCat, and whether a paywall changed remotely is still legal under store rules.

  • Why use it over StoreKit or Stripe?6
  • How do I track ad attribution through it?3
  • Is it worth the risk?2
  • What happens to existing subscribers if I switch?1
  • Is a remote paywall allowed?1

Is using RevenueCat's integration with MMP's killing attribution? So installs which are sent from singular SDK on device is being tracked with 80%+ accuracy between my meta ad campaign and singular but purchase events sent from @RevenueCat to singular then to meta is being tracked with 40% or less accuracy to add to this, in April we had Singular setup where all events was sent from device using Singular SDK and I don't remember having this big of an events tracking issue, in fact it was pretty good Am I confused or is using RevenueCats integration to send events causing less events to be attributed to the campaign itself?

I made something maybe bad today I released the v2 of my language learning app and in this new version I use revenuecat I was using superwall in the past and I changed because I don’t have the $49 for the superwall subscription One user started using the trial of the previous version of my app which has superwall inside Now that I have changed to revenuecat what will happen? Wishes· 13 posts· written 27 Oct

What do people want from RevenueCat?

The biggest wish is sharing: 5 people want a share card, public link or date filter so MRR can be posted cleanly. Next, 2 want the Rico tab made optional and 2 want a payout calendar and early payouts in more regions.

Sharing requests come in small pieces: a share button that produces "a beautiful card" for monthly revenue or MRR, a public link plus an image showing MRR, and a date and time filter on verified metrics so old revenue does not show when the numbers go to a new partner. In the same thread, one says the confetti dashboard "feels cheap" and asks for themes instead.

Two want the Rico tab optional, and one explains why: muscle memory aims for transactions at the bottom right and keeps opening Rico.

Two more are about money arriving: the early payout programme extended to African startups, and a payout calendar in the app, with the amount expected to land.

The rest are single requests: disable an integration without deleting it, support non-renewing subscriptions so access can be managed without consumables, support for Huawei, and a journey dashboard that one builder stopped waiting for and made themselves.

  • Shareable MRR card and public link5
  • Make the Rico tab optional2
  • Payout calendar and early payouts everywhere2
  • Disable an integration without deleting1
  • Support non-renewing subscriptions1
  • Huawei support1

Can someone at revenuecat please add a date and time filter to verified metrics settings so only metrics from that period are shown? Wanna share the metrics with a new partner so they can see what's happening, I need the data to be clean without past revenue. @HHaandr @elwatto
