Just got through my first week of expenses on @tryramp. Fuck. I didn’t want it to live up to the hype. I am allergic to hype. But it *is* that much better. gg @geoffintech

How do people feel about Ramp?
Delight leads: 12 people say Ramp is better than the hype, and 8 more admire how the company executes. 7 single out particular features; 5 are critical.
12 people are delighted outright. One says a first week of expenses lived up to hype they were allergic to; another calls it the most delightful business product of their career and says it "makes that thing that used to suck, not suck." A third moved an org onto it and finds it simple for everyone who spends.
8 admire the execution and craft rather than the product alone: scaling from 250 to 1,600+ cited as a lesson in talent density, props to the marketing team, a brand recognizable from a sliver of a testimonial, and an engineering choice — the sandbox as a tool the agent calls, with session state in the database — picked out for praise.
7 praise particular features: the Chrome extension and texts, Gmail receipts, a different card number per transaction, a Starlink filter added to travel, onchain treasury rails. 2 credit the published spend data itself.
5 are critical, over an unprofessional mass email, an incomplete AI token spend feature, data published a week or two late, and one who finds the attention on Ramp "quite odd."

Yesterday I had five hours on a flight with Wi-Fi that barely worked. “Has Wi-Fi” is a pretty low bar. So I added a @Starlink filter to @tryramp travel. Now you can check the odds of getting Starlink before you book. 🚀
In my entire career, there has never been a business product more delightful to use than @tryramp - it makes that thing that used to suck, not suck.
Talent is usually the team pushing back on references. We don't want to slow down a close or impact our numbers. I've completely flipped on that. Helping scale @tryramp from 250 to 1,600+ showed me how much talent density matters as you grow, and at @getserval references are now about 50% of our hiring decision. We've passed on people who interviewed fine because the references made it clear they weren't going to raise the bar. You rarely catch that in a few hours of interviews, and it's been one of the best ways we protect the quality of our team. The upside goes beyond filtering, because when we decide to move forward with a candidate, references surface signal on what motivates them and what they need in their next role, which gives us a real playbook for the close.
Chrome extension and use of texts. That’s it. That’s the magic (so far). Don’t make me go into an app or portal *ever* I was often 6+ mo behind on expenses on other platforms. Don’t expect that to happen now.

What do people complain about with Ramp?
The main complaint is seeing and controlling AI tool spend: 6 of the 11 people here describe bills across too many accounts, and Ramp's own token feature not closing the gap.
6 people describe AI spend as hard to see and control. One lists the stack — Cursor with and without OpenRouter, Codex, ChatGPT and Claude without enterprise plans — and says keeping one global view is so hard they are "really pissed." Ramp's AI token spend feature doesn't capture non-Anthropic and non-OpenAI usage through OpenRouter, can't properly assign usage to team members, and can't connect to ChatGPT or Claude without enterprise plans on both. Replies pick at the edges: tracking those bills is "a nightmare," and a seat is a flat fee no vendor reports per use, so enterprise still wouldn't give spend per person. One asks why basic usage tracking is still such a pain.
2 were unhappy with a mass email that read as unprofessional; one reply says Ramp trained its "mass email agent on too much spam." 2 find budgets confusing — which budget a physical card charges to, and the mental model when new; a Ramp account agrees complexity crept in as capabilities were added and says simplification is underway. 2 posts from one person complain published data lags a week or two behind other trackers.
- AI spend is hard to see and control7
- Unprofessional marketing email2
- Budgets and setup are confusing2
- Published data lags2

At @fairmint we use Cursor (with and without OpenRouter), Codex, ChatGPT (not enterprise), Claude (not enterprise) and I am really pissed that it's so difficult to have a global view of usage and spending across all these accounts!! So far I was using @tryramp new AI token spend feature but it's unfortunately not complete: * It doesn't capture non-Anthropic and non-OpenAI model usage from OpenRouter * It can't properly assign usage to team members * It can't connect to chatGPT and Claude unless we have an enterprise plan in both (!!)... On this, wtf are you doing @OpenAI and @claudeai ?? We should not have to pay Enterprise plans for a basic feature like this!! What do you guys use to track down usage and spending precisely in your team?
tracking these bills is a nightmare
the chatgpt and claude ones aren't really a missing feature. a seat is a flat fee and no vendor reports it per use, so enterprise would get you usage per member but still no spend per person.
Got this email this morning. Is this what you're doing @tryramp? Completely unprofessional.
we hear you and agree! complexity creep as we added more capabilities over time. we've found the mental model is unintuitive especially for folks just getting started. we're actually working on simplifying this!

What are the alternatives to Ramp?
Most comparison talk here is with Mercury and other spend platforms — 3 of the 5 people — on revenue, run rate and growth. 1 builder skipped Ramp and Brex to keep interchange.
3 people weigh Ramp against Mercury, with Airwallex and Slash named alongside. The comparison runs on business models and numbers rather than features: one asks whether a table should be updated with a $1B run rate, another guesses at where the revenue comes from (subscriptions, interchange, possibly a setup or annual fee, a cut on yield), and notes that in fintech fee models multiply and "the pricing page doesn't always cover every case." One wants year-on-year growth rates on the Y axis and a valuation-scaled dot, guessing Ramp may be growing fastest and super-linearly, which would point to cross-selling.
The other two are single voices. 1 builder says they started building their own rails on Column and are skipping Ramp and Brex, keeping the interchange and pushing people toward stablecoin payments; they only learned Column had an API after the prototype. 1 reader says Ramp's new Connectors look a lot like executorsh and wonders how the implementations differ.
- Mercury and peer spend tools4
- Column card rails1
- Executorsh1

worth updating the table with the $1B run rate? link
The numbers come from the companies themselves. In fintech there are multiple fee models, and the pricing page doesn't always cover every case.
Would be interesting to see the yoy growth rates as the Y axis and then scale valuation based on size of dot. I imagine Ramp is growing the fastest potentially super linear with growth of customers, which would point to an ability to effectively cross-sell
subscriptions, interchange, probably a setup fee/annual fee, cut on the yield
💯 agree. I started to build my own rails on @column and skipping @tryramp and @brexHQ. (I didn’t know you had an api til after I built prototype: keeping the interchange. Pushing people towards stablecoins payment)

Questions· 11 posts from 10 people· written 27 Oct
What do people ask about Ramp?
Questions split three ways: whether Ramp's published data is trustworthy (3 people), how it runs sales and hiring (3), and where the money comes from (2).
3 people question the data behind Ramp's published spend numbers. The doubts are about coverage and bias: how much enterprise AI spend happens outside Ramp's customer base, whether spend billed directly through AWS or GCP is caught, and whether there's "insane selection bias," with one asking honestly whether startups are normalized against other companies.
3 ask about how Ramp sells and hires, prompted by a founder's account of its go-to-market. One wants to know what replaced forecasting calls in the weekly routine; another asks how quota capacity was tied to hiring pace as the company scaled, noting that overpaying reps works until ramp time stretches and the comp plan outruns the pipeline; a third does the math on paying twice for more meetings and wants to know whether meeting quality held up.
2 ask where the revenue comes from given there are no wire fees, with replies pointing to subscriptions, interchange, possible setup or annual fees and a cut on yield. 2 ask what others used before Ramp, wanting to know what it replaced.

how can there not be insane selection bias in Ramp’s data? Honest question. Do they normalize startups vs others
How much of enterprise AI spend takes place outside of Ramp’s customer universe?
Wonder if Ramps data catches enterprise spend billed directly through AWS or GCP?
Overpaying reps works until ramp time stretches and the comp plan outruns the pipeline. Curious how Ramp tied quota capacity to hiring pace as they scaled.
2x pay for 4-6x the meetings is actually cheaper per meeting. would love to know if meeting quality held up though

What do people want from Ramp?
Four people, four separate wishes: spend broken down by workflow, one-tap virtual cards, bookkeeping, and filtering travel by in-flight wifi.
Every wish here is a single voice, so none carries more weight than another.
On AI spend, one person wants to see which workflow burned the budget, not just the total per tool: "the total per tool doesn't help me much. I want to see which workflow burned it so I know what to kill."
On cards, someone wants creating virtual cards to be "as easy as one tap," saying Ramp's and Mercury's APIs don't support it yet, and asking to be connected to people at both companies.
On the roadmap, a reader replying to Ramp staff asks simply, "Bookkeeping next?"
On travel, one person suggests predicting wifi quality from airline, tail number and refund data on wifi charges, and wants a "filter by starlink" option until it exists. Two weeks later a user posted that they had added a Starlink filter to Ramp travel, so that wish was met in the meantime.

- One-tap virtual cards via API1
- Bookkeeping1
- Filter travel by Starlink wifi1

honestly the total per tool doesn't help me much. I want to see which workflow burned it so I know what to kill
i want to bring this to @mercury and @tryramp cards as well! their APIs don't support this. can anyone connect me w relevant folks at these 2 companies? creating virtual cards should be as easy as one tap. link
Bookkeeping next?
could probably predict based on airline + tail number + dispute/refund data on wifi charge. could be a fun inspect project until we add filter by starlink
