How do people feel about PostHog?
54 of the 101 people here recommend PostHog and 26 say they love it, with the free tier the detail they keep naming. The AI side draws 15 people's praise; only 2 walked away.
Recommendation is the biggest group: 54 people use PostHog and point others at it — connect it from the start, name it when someone asks what to use — and credit it with showing what people click and where a funnel leaks. The free tier is the detail they repeat: a million events, five thousand session replays and 100,000 errors a month with no card, and over the limit it "drops data instead of billing u". 26 people are louder: "the AWS of analytics", a product they would use on every project, a lot for $0, plus startup credits worth $50k over twelve months.
15 single out the AI side — plugging the MCP server into Claude or Cursor and describing the dashboard you want, self-driving, the setup wizard — and 8 value session replays for watching users get stuck. Only 2 walked away: one nearly churned over the onboarding, one removed it after a couple of days over privacy.

Honestly how good is @posthog? I can literally do so much for $0 dollars.
folks, posthog self-driving is insanely good. just connect there everything you have.
love that posthog has a 16x speed option to watch session replays. i wish youtube also had this 🏃♀️
trying out @posthog , wtf is this website and onboarding flow? if i couldnt make my agent push through this i wouldve churned already. awful onboarding.

What do people complain about with PostHog?
The complaint people make most is that the interface is dense and hard to navigate (7 people), then pricing and plan fit (6) and worries about what it collects (4). 3 say the numbers need checking before anyone trusts them.
Density is the top complaint: "the ui is so complicated", a landing page that is overwhelming to browse, information density too high to get into the main flow, and one user who wants to open straight into a default dashboard instead of finding their way. One says the docs are English-only and leaned on ChatGPT screenshots; another stopped learning it.
Pricing comes next: 6 people report hitting usage limits, features gated to Team and Enterprise, and a startup application that came back both approved and rejected. One says "posthog is not made for people with 200 website visitors".
4 worry about what is collected — one removed it after a couple of days because accepting once showed it too much. 3 say charts mixed sites, queried events that were never recorded, or silently corrupted a property. 3 find the visualisation clunky, 2 say custom event schemas are left to them, and 2 say it stops working at scale or in the EU.

posthog is very powerful but the ui is so complicated
hey tim! here's a semi-actionable fix. - the level of information density to get into the main flow is very high - i literally want to open posthog and immediately go to a default dashboard that shows all the information i want to see and only that (if there's a way to do this, i think the self-service route is too complicated) hard to act on this because i think it's more of a product philosophy vs a discrete thing to be addressed. I LOVED logsnag's UI and simplicity, to present an example.
posthog is not made for people with 200 website visitors
I gave my agent (Hermes) access to PostHog through MCP and asked it to review my dashboard. It found charts mixing different websites and querying event names absent from our recorded data. Apparently, the dashboard needed supervision, and I had appointed myself. I wrote a practical walkthrough using examples from my ModePot projects: set up website tracking, verify events, connect Hermes, and investigate what visitors actually do. Includes copyable prompts and the mistakes worth checking before trusting your charts. What are you connecting Hermes to beyond your codebase?
We don’t track you. We just work for you. 🥬 Tried PostHog for a couple days. Hit Accept once and suddenly knew way too much. If I don’t even like having that on my own product, why would you. So it’s out of the app. We get paid for the work. That’s all.

What are the alternatives to PostHog?
DataFast is the tool people weigh it against most (5 people), then GA4 (4) and Umami (3); every other comparison is named by one or two people. The DataFast and Umami comparisons come out for PostHog, on free tier and on doing more than a simple visitor counter.
The DataFast comparison is about price per event: "$19/month for 10k events" against someone's 545,000 events for $0, with the caveat that they built their own dashboard on top "because their UI sucks". Others describe dropping DataFast for PostHog, call it a pricier closed-source PostHog, or plan to self-host to skip per-visitor pricing.
Against GA4, people run both or prefer PostHog for publishers; one went back to free Google Analytics and said PostHog would be the advanced tool worth paying for. Umami is "too basic", so people move up or pick per project.
2 eye Cloudflare's flags instead of PostHog's; 2 call PostHog and Amplitude the two standard setups; 2 ask why they would pick DataBuddy over it. Singles: Mixpanel users who never looked back, LogSnag's simpler UI set against its pricing, and one team that copied the approach in-house with ClickHouse and replays.

DataFast: $19/month for 10k events. My PostHog last month: 545k events. Paid $0. Built my own dashboard on top because their UI sucks. Indie hacker? Don't pay for analytics. Big company? Don't self-host it either.
I made this dashboard with @posthog + @claudeai I dropped datafast and now collect everything with PostHog. connected it to Claude via MCP, so I can see all my analytics in whatever dashboard design I want. free, more comfortable, and way more flexible.
I was but Umami is too basic, then I just forgot my password and moved to Posthog.
PostHog man, maybe for my next billion dollar idea i'll use Umami😅
would love a dive on how amp's feature flags work, and why you decided to build instead of buy? we use posthog right now, but are eyeing cloudflare flags to unify this a bit. also considering workos flags. should we skip that all and just DIY?

Questions· 20 posts· written 27 Oct
What do people ask about PostHog?
The most asked questions are how far the free plan goes (4) and whether it is easy to set up (4), level with each other; next come whether it is needed on top of Umami (2) and whether to build an analytics system yourself (2).
On the free plan people want to know the size of the event allowance and whether it is per app, per account or per project: one has ten sites with a million events each elsewhere and asks if PostHog offers the same, another asks directly "what's posthog free tier for event ingestion? Is it 1m?" Ease of setup draws the same number of people — "Is it easy to set up?" — alongside people saying they will try it tomorrow.
The Umami question is whether PostHog is "really necessary" once a simple tool is deployed; the build-it-yourself question is whether a custom system is the better route, with one person saying agents can now build full tracking so there is no need for PostHog at all.
The rest are one person each: the status of the Muse connector for a daily metrics update, wiring Sentry and PostHog over MCP to feed a triage agent, which MCP servers can change data without a human click, stopping a daily report pulling stale property data, and whether to trust an app that claims no analytics but ships PostHog events.

I have like 10 sites which I track analytics all of them have 1M events for free. Does posthog offer same?
@grok what's posthog free tier for event ingestion? Is it 1m?
Thank you, although it felt good for maybe a few seconds :/ Thank you for the recommendations, are you using PostHog yourself? Is it easy to set up?
posthog 真的很有必要么?我部署了Umami,能看到一些数据和一些预定义的事件,不知道是否还需要部署posthog?
Yes, I do use Gemini 3.8 flash. Switch to your melee weapon when your tokens are reloading, hehe Just finished integrating Hamster.Lottie into Foodvita Next step: going to build the user analytics system, Do you think I should build my own custom user analytics system around my project or use PostHog/similar tools?

What do people want from PostHog?
Four people each ask for something different, so no wish has more than one voice: optional modules, project-level alerts, more free credits, and opening straight into a default dashboard.
One lays out a menu of optional modules: a consent banner, replays only after consent, one Slack line per notable visit, a weekly digest, alerts when a form or the collector breaks, AI referral and crawler counts, and enforced retention with a "delete my data" button.
One asks for a project-level alerts feature and beta access, saying insight alerts to Slack are not much use and that building anything automated takes "too much plumbing".
One asks for extra credits after sampling heavily and running past the free limit, while praising the product. One wants PostHog to open into a default dashboard showing only the numbers they care about, because the self-service route to that is too complicated — the same person who called the interface too dense.
With 4 posts from 4 people this is the thinnest part of the conversation, so these are asks named once rather than a trend.
- Extra optional modules1
- Project alerts1
- More free credits1
- Open on a default dashboard1

yo @posthog any updates on that project alerts feature? any chance we can get in on the beta for that? insight alerts to slack are mostly useless and require too much plumbing to create any kind of automated process from.
@posthog can I get some credits I sampled analytics like crazy I'm still projected over free limit I love the product so much you can check my tweets
