Nano Banana on X

Praise leads: people post what Nano Banana makes and how photographic it looks, and a smaller group credits the 2.1 release by name. Complaints are fewer and spread across output misses, filters and credits, while GPT Image is the model it is measured against.

How do people feel about Nano Banana?

Praise carries the reception: the biggest group, 51 people, give flat positive verdicts, and 20 more single out how real the images look. 14 credit the 2.1 release by name, while 7 are dismissive and 4 like it with a catch.

Enthusiasm is mostly shown rather than argued: people post what they made and recommend it — an anniversary photo with a partner swapped for a white chalk outline, character reference sheets for AI personas, textures for 3D scenes, textbook-style surgical illustrations. 20 people single out realism and detail, pointing at skin and light, hair strands, water drops and reflections, with one note of praise for skipping the "plastic airbrushing".

14 credit the 2.1 release specifically: mask-based editing, subject consistency, better text, 4K local edits; one ran the same prompts through 2.1 and 2 and put 2.1 ahead in every pair. The current release also has its detractors. 7 people say it fell short of GPT Image, or that it is "good at editing images, but not at generating them"; 4 more like it with a caveat, such as results that swing from fantastic to far off.

Celebrating our second wedding anniversary this week but my wife isn't a very public person, so I often can't post the photos we've taken together. So I've been experimenting with @NanoBanana prompts, and this one she approves: "Replace the person [behind | on the left] with an

A little wild west, a little untamed, and impossible to ignore. 🤎 Sydney Sweeney, Sadie Sink, Mikey Madison Nano Banana 2 via @ImagineArt_X @imagineart_creo Photorealistic indoor fashion portrait of an adult woman with long, straight platinum-blonde hair, light blue-gray eyes, natural skin texture, and a calm, confident expression. She wears a vintage distressed brown cowboy hat with decorative stitching, an oversized cropped reddish-brown leather Western jacket, a black floral lace-trimmed top, and fitted beige high-waisted shorts. A simple silver ring completes her look. She stands casually in a three-quarter pose, with one hand resting naturally near her shorts and the other relaxed at her side. Her long blonde hair falls over both shoulders. The complete cowboy hat, face, shoulders, and outfit are clearly visible. The setting is a modern home kitchen with pale wood-grain cabinets, a dark brown backsplash, and a countertop. Soft natural window light creates realistic shadows and warm, neutral colors. Shot on a modern smartphone, vertical 3:4 composition, eye-level perspective, realistic skin pores, individual hair strands, detailed weathered leather, intricate stitching, natural fabric texture, subtle photographic grain, authentic indoor photography, minimal retouching, believable anatomy, no CGI appearance, no text, no watermark.

skipped the basic prompts and went straight for foul weather lighting and skin dynamics. translucent light passing through the ear cartilage, rain droplets clinging to the brow, and zero plastic airbrushing. you guys cooked on this build.

What do people complain about with Nano Banana?

Output misses are the biggest complaint, named by 9 people: extra limbs, warped proportions, unwanted people in the frame. Content filters and cost are level behind at 5 and 5 people each.

Complaints about the images themselves are the largest group. People report extra arms or legs in detail views, proportions that drift, stiff or samey action poses, and background people appearing when a single person was asked for. Others describe output as noisy or greasy, or say unnamed faces default to middle-aged women.

Filters and price sit level. 5 people say prompts get refused or quietly rewritten, naming NSFW and violence blocks, with one asking others how they get past them. 5 people say credits run out: a Pro subscriber close to unsubscribing, one whose per-image point cost tripled, and one working out that 2.1 costs half as much per image as Pro yet almost the same across a hundred images a month.

Smaller complaints: a model that cannot be called through OpenRouter or Gemini, text that lands outside safe zones or mangles a place name, and free-tier prompts used for training.

What are the alternatives to Nano Banana?

GPT Image is the comparison that dominates, with 25 people weighing it against that model, usually on the same prompt. Next comes its own earlier versions — Pro, 2.0, 2 Lite — at 9 people; every other model is named by a handful.

GPT Image is the reference point by a wide margin: 25 people compare against it, usually by running one prompt through both. Verdicts split. Some call GPT Image 2.5 the ceiling and say 2.1 "fumbled" against it; others prefer this one because people come out looking like photographs instead of wax figures, and describe a hybrid workflow — build the ad in GPT Image, break it into a detailed JSON spec, re-render it here. Noise and text handling are argued both ways.

9 people name one of its own versions — Pro, 2.0, 2 Lite — as what they use or prefer, with Pro drawing production work and unlimited-plan users.

Past that it is a long tail: run through fal, Replicate, povo AI or inside Firefly (5 people), weighed against Grok Imagine (4), paired with Seedance to make video (4), or set against Seedream, Krea, Higgsfield, Flux, Qwen-Image, Midjourney and Ideogram in ones and twos.

Underappreciated how OpenAI dropped GPT-Image 2 and literally no competing model has been able to decisively beat it even 6 months later! Had some hope for Google but fumbled w/ Nano Banana 2.1, though a bigger image model is in the works at GDM coming soon(tm)

the person on the left is obviously AI. So is the one on the right. only one of them looks like it GPT Image 2.5 is cracked for ads but the people always come out looking like wax figures (usually anyways) nano banana pro people look actually real, but the designs are meh so

We tested both across: → OOH product ad → beauty + product shot → text-heavy poster What matters isn’t just which image looks better. It’s which model actually follows the brief, keeps the product intact, and handles text without falling apart. That’s where Nano Banana 2.1 gets interesting. 👀 Full 2.1 test + comparisons 👉link #NanoBanana21 #AIImage #AIDesign #AIAdvertising #ImaStudio

I prioritized keeping it super inexpensive for maximum iteration and fun. Creating this test video used only $0.35 of Opus 5.5 tokens (that’s 35 cents). I also used Nano Banana 2.1, which is a great value and the images look amazing (about $0.08 an image on FAL and $0.05 on

Questions· 10 posts· written 27 Oct

What do people ask about Nano Banana?

The questions split evenly: 4 people ask where to run it and 4 ask how it compares. The two singles ask how to get around the filter and whether anyone still uses it.

The "where do I run it" asks are practical: which platform to generate on, which model produced a reference image (Seedream or Nano Banana), and — from someone holding Pro access — whether they have tried the alternative at all. The comparison asks want a verdict rather than detail: how the newest version stacks up against GPT Image, which of two same-prompt images is Nano Banana 2, and whether someone has tested the new release yet.

Two singles sit outside both: a user who tried it through another service and hit an NSFW error, asking how other people get around it, and a bare "Is anyone still using Nano banana?"

  • How do I get around the filter?1

What do people want from Nano Banana?

Real transparency is the one ask with more than one voice: 2 people want a truly transparent background for cutouts, not a baked-in checkerboard. The other wishes are single posts — real 3D model output, an AR haircut preview, and a genuinely new release.

The clearest ask comes from ad work: 2 people want a transparent background that is actually transparent, because a grey-and-white checkerboard gets baked into the pixels and "cutouts are half my day". One of them hopes it is fixed before launch.

The rest are asked once each. Someone who renders with it wants to step up to real 3D models and wants that to arrive on the Pro plan. A user choosing hairstyles, hair colours and glasses frames wants those previews turned into AR, to see where to cut while styling.

And one is still waiting for what they call the real new release rather than incremental updates — the same impatience that shows up in the complaints as "Still waiting for the real new nano-banana."

Please fix this transparent background issue in Nano Banana 3 while training is still ongoing. When I generate an image with a transparent background, it produces a grey-and-white checkerboard pattern instead of actual transparency! @NanoBanana @alisa_fortin
