Praise leads: 25 people recommend Render outright and 7 say it has run for months or years without an outage. Beside that, 18 weigh it against Railway or move over after Railway's October outage; smaller groups raise price, site failures and trust.

How do people feel about Render?
Most of the section is plain enthusiasm: 25 of 36 people recommend Render outright, often in a single line and often to someone whose current host is failing. The reason named most after that is reliability, with 7 people saying they have run projects for months or years without an outage.
Fan posts are short and mostly recommendations rather than stories: people call it the best product in the market, say it is "for anything serious", and tell others to try it. The reason they give most is uptime — 7 people say they have run projects for months or years with no incident, one since 2022 and one for two years, and one contrasts their projects sitting safely on Render while a competitor had a security incident.
4 praise the deploy itself: git push and it runs, "no infra, no networking, no stress", months without thinking about deploys. Several mention Render as an option mid-thread while a competitor was down; reach on individual posts is modest, a handful of likes.
The doubt is money. 2 rate the platform but say pricing stops them using it more, one unwilling to pay $25 a month once credits run out. 2 are undecided, asking for concrete reasons or for real user feedback before they move.

- Reliable, no problems8
- Easy deploys, no infra4
- Satisfied, price is the blocker2
- Undecided, wants convincing2

How it felt to wake up and see that @Railway suffered a major security incident, while all of my projects are safely on @render
I have now worked for @render for a few months learning how we do things. Yesterday, I got my chance to actually use it as a dev and WOW! Nothing better in my mind than how easy it was to go from 'git push' to seeing the application working. No infra, no networking, no stress.
Proba @render, sin ningún problema por ahora y lo vengo usando hace 2 años
Appreciate the offer but I'm thinking long term and it's not sustainable, I don't want to pay $25/mo after free credits run out. I know Render is already a great platform, it's just pricing holding me back. A $5/mo plan w/ volumes, no sleep, and multiple projects would be great.

What do people complain about with Render?
The largest single complaint is the site and dashboard itself breaking — sign-in, sign-up and the GitHub connect flow — with 6 people. Slow free-tier apps come next at 4, and billing, price and trust are level at 3, 3 and 3 people each.
The most-named failure is the site: a GitHub connect popup that kept reopening the dashboard in a loop, free services that hang when someone sets up a dev environment, a site down and unable to sign in, registration emails that never arrive, and one post mocking the mobile page.
Slowness is the next cluster. The free instance sleeps and the first request pays for it, free hours run out, and one developer's backend on Render feels slow next to a frontend on Vercel.
Billing trouble is about cards that will not debit, charges people did not expect with cancellation blocked until they pay, and one user who paid but still cannot reach their services. On price, one poster puts Render's bandwidth at three times a competitor's.
Trust runs through the 3 people who doubt it. The widest-read post in the section, seen far beyond the others, says the CEO mocking a competitor's outage changed their mind; another asks how anyone can trust it will not happen here.
- Outages and site bugs6
- Cold starts, slow free tier5
- Billing and payment trouble3
- Expensive, especially bandwidth3
- Trust worries3

.@render is broken today ig. i am trying to connect to github but its reopening the dashboard in that popup. now it can go in infinite loop as well.
i was considering render after the railway incident then the ceo showed up to dunk on a competitor's outage changed my mind it could happen to anyone. including you @render
The frontend on @vercel is way too fast for my backend on @render 😭
Just yesterday I was considering @Railway vs @render, because of the bandwidth pricing, which is 3x more expensive on Render, I was having doubts about Railway reliability - and today this happens. 2nd time I consider Railway after which they immediately have a huge outage.
Please can you guys help, my project has being rejecting after I hosted on render unable to debit my card

What are the alternatives to Render?
Railway is the comparison by a wide margin: 18 of 33 people mention it, most of them after Railway's October outage, and several describe migrating or planning to. Behind that, self-hosting on a VPS, Vercel, Fly.io and Cloudflare are level at 3 people each.
Most of the Railway talk is people arriving. One migrated in ten minutes and deleted the project, another ported 14 projects, others post "Bye bye Railway" and ask how the pricing compares. Not everyone moves: one would rather wait than migrate, one notes databases and Redis make it trickier, and one could not migrate at all because Railway was down.
Price cuts both ways. One poster says bandwidth is three times dearer on Render but would not give Railway another dollar; another argues the benefits outweigh the extra cost.
The VPS camp is small but argumentative: why not a VPS with Coolify, answered with it being harder to scale and "Who will protect it?", and one declaring they are done with PaaS. Vercel is named for frontends, Cloudflare Pages as fast and free but needing a rewrite for Workers, Fly.io for a side-by-side trial, and one picks PlanetScale over Render Postgres.

- Self-hosting on a VPS4
- Vercel3
- Fly.io3

for anyone following the @railway outage, I just migrated to @render in like 10 minutes and deleted my railway project
Well, 14 projects now ported over from @Railway to @render . I appreciate that hacks can happen, but to sit on the info for half a day, and then tell users to rotate keys but without letting them deploy the updated keys is inexusable.
Looking to get away from @Railway ? Use @render devs!
Wny not VPS + coolify?
Cloudflare Pages are high performance, free for most users, and fast. Recommended. I host both my business, and my personal website there.

What do people ask about Render?
Two questions tie at the top, 4 people each: how Render's pricing is calculated, and why pick Render over the alternatives. The rest ask whether it is down (2 people) and whether secrets and access are safe (2).
Pricing questions are about how the bill is built. Someone with twelve deployments on a flat competitor plan asks whether Render charges per deployment; another asks the cost per domain, because they sell self-hosted websites; others ask about outbound traffic and how the total compares with what they pay now.
The other big question is why switch at all — for specific reasons, and for a realistic run through pros and cons. One asks what Render is missing, and another asks why use Render rather than just Google.
Two people simply ask whether Render is down. Two more ask about secrets: whether environment variables are safe, and whether teams can scope cloud credentials separately for preview and production services.
- How is pricing calculated?4
- Why pick Render over the rest?4
- Is Render down?2
- Are my secrets and access safe?2

hey @anuraggoel can you explain render's pricing model better? on railway, say I have, 12 deployments in one workspace, railway charges me $25 for their pro plan + extra not included usage outside of that. from my understanding render charges per deployment?
Dammit @render charges per domain? We offer self-hosted website solutions. What's the cost per domain?
oh wow @anuraggoel (CEO of @render) keeping tabs! @bot recommended render actually - any specific reasons i should make the switch?
but hey how do they compare realistically and what has been the take on sentiment wise in terms of pros and cons @grok for @render
Is @render down ?

What do people want from Render?
The section is small, 5 people with 5 posts. The only ask more than one person makes is cheaper or usage-based plans, 2 people, so dev and QA environments do not cost full price; the rest are single requests.
One wants a $5-a-month plan with volumes, no sleeping and multiple projects, saying they will not pay $25 once free credits run out. Another wants usage-based pricing at least per environment, having paid for dev workers until they moved dev onto their own home server.
The other three are single asks. One wants servers in Sydney so the app and its database sit in the same region, saying latency is becoming an issue and they do not want to look for an alternative. One asks where the AI bot is that would diagnose deploy errors. One wants a CI/CD walkthrough with an example that waits for the deployment result and then runs a smoke test, drawing a line between a deploy request being accepted and the new version serving the critical path.
- Cheaper plans, usage-based pricing2
- Servers in Sydney1
- AI bot for deploy errors1
- CI/CD example that waits and smoke-tests1

That was quick, I just forgot to post. One thing I wish @render had was usage-based pricing at least per environments for lower non-serious environments like dev and qa. It was a tough pill to swallow to pay for workers for dev so im setting up dev to work on my home server
@render @anuraggoel Hey render team! I saw Sydney servers will be available later this year - any ETA on this? Need to get my DB and server in the same region and don't want to look for an alternative, but latency is becoming an issue. Please say it's soon! :)
@render where is your helpful ai bot to diagnose deploy errors?
For the CI/CD walkthrough, I’d love an example that waits for the deployment result and then runs a smoke test. A pipeline should distinguish “deploy request accepted” from “the new version is serving the critical path.”

PaaS or your own server, argued out
One poster declared they were done with PaaS; asked why not a VPS with Coolify, the answer was that it is harder to scale and someone has to protect it, while another argued Render's benefits outweigh the extra cost.

Done with PaaS
Wny not VPS + coolify?
1. It's harder to scale it 2. Who will protect it?
I'm much smaller but @render doesn't feel that much more expensive and the benefits would easily outweigh the incremental costs (we're operating SaaS after all so margins are great). I'm surprised that more folks aren't switching.
Maybe @northflank is a good fit. I see @nateberkopec and @jessethanley talk about all the time. It's definitely something I'd look into if I didn't have my own infra management platform.

The safety case argued both ways
With the rival still recovering, some said their projects were safer on Render; others answered that it could happen here too, and the furthest-reaching post said the CEO's replies about the outage had changed their mind.

It could happen to anyone. But it happened to Railway, and "it could happen to Render too" isn't a reason to stay with the one where it actually did.
how can we trust the same wont happen?

A rival's outage sends people to Render
After Railway went down, people posted about switching: one migrated in ten minutes and deleted the old project, others said goodbye, and one could not move at all because the other host was still down.

Bye bye @Railway , I’m with @render now
Goodbye @Railway hello @render, major deployment outages without alternative is just unacceptable
If I get @render setup and working before @Railway fixes their crap I’m canceling Railway
At this point im also exploring render, makes no sense to be paying for a service that goes down every 2 seconds and never reimburses its customers
