Discord on X

Wrongful bans and unanswered support tickets dominate the talk: the biggest themes are people who lost an account or cannot get a reply, alongside ID verification and AI moderation. Praise for badges, profile links and time mentions is a smaller, separate strand.

How do people feel about Discord?

Praise is the largest part of reception: 11 people like what Discord is shipping, while 6 are disappointed by the app and 5 say they are quitting or cancelling Nitro.

Enthusiasm is about features landing. People celebrate that they can finally stop using the website, thank Discord for catching a hack and signing them out everywhere, and say badges make a profile look cool. One developer says channels and threads are a cheat code for keeping AI agents organised; another says time mentions on mobile end the "what time is that for me" problem when planning across time zones.

Disappointment is about how the app feels day to day: a spam-covered interface, spammy notification defaults, heavy resource use, odd UI and UX choices, and distrust of AI reports people call false. One says it cannot work as a main collaboration tool.

Leaving comes with a specific grievance: refusing to upload ID to servers that "experience a data breach every tuesday", going in circles with chatbot support over a hijacked account, and a warning to stop paying for Nitro over how Discord is acting.

2 people are content with what they get: the 100-channel limit is already enough for one, and the other says the unconfirmed group has not changed daily use.

What do people complain about with Discord?

Wrongful bans and silent support are the two biggest problems: 32 people say their account was banned or limited without evidence, and 26 say support never answers. 11 people are locked out or hacked and cannot get back in.

Bans and support lead. People say accounts are suspended or limited with no evidence given — banned "for no reason", violations piling up while a review request sits unanswered, a ban lifted and re-applied an hour later. Several describe mass reports from other users triggering limits, and one says child safety bans come from messages read out of context. Losing an account costs years of Nitro and, for one person, a community server they have to rebuild.

The same names recur in support: tickets closed unanswered for over a month, copy-pasted replies, a bot that promised a human reviewer and never followed up, and a paying customer who gets nothing but generic bot responses. 11 people are locked out or hacked, one waiting "day 59" for their account back; 9 people say AI does the moderating and appeals land with bots.

Then a long tail: quests that award no orbs, the Halloween sound pack re-enabling after every restart, iOS features arriving late, being charged for an account they cannot access, ID checks refused as data collection, the forced friends-activity sidebar, and scam accounts.

I reported the server. @discord goes out of their way to make their reporting process vague and obfuscated when it comes to the grooming of minors. But there is absolutely no doubt that what’s going on here is illegal, immoral, and unacceptable.

@discord @discord_support my acc is already dead can y'all not add more violations to it? and can you PLEASE review the ones that are active? i requested a review of the first one two days ago! i wrote a support ticket yesterday!!

What are the alternatives to Discord?

Alternatives come up rarely — 5 people name one — and no option leads. Signal is the only one named by 2 people, for privacy; Telegram, TeamSpeak and Slack come up once each.

Signal is the only comparison more than one person makes, and the reason is privacy: one says it does not need a phone number if you use the beta and is very secure, and the other says they will look into it. Telegram is cited more as a model than a destination, alongside Signal, for already having stories people want in Discord.

TeamSpeak is a standby. A user angry about ID verification and data collection says a dedicated TeamSpeak 6 server is ready to replace Discord the moment verification reaches Canada.

Slack is where one team went after being told feature requests get done if they get enough upvotes on a forum; the team moved its work there.

I genuinely couldnt give a flying fuck if discord takes 2 or 3 seconds longer to update. What I care about is all this verify you're an adult bullshit, third party platforms storing government ids and @discord collecting and selling any bit of data they can get their hands on. The moment you roll that shit out in Canada, I got a dedicated Team Speak 6 server ready to replace you.

Questions· 14 posts· written 27 Oct

What do people ask about Discord?

People ask how to get back into an account: 3 people ask about recovering a hacked or locked account, 3 ask why they were banned or limited, and 6 ask how to fix a login, a blocked setting or a removed phone number.

The biggest group wants a practical fix. Passkeys stop working and keep being demanded, backup codes fail, an SMS arrives but the reset goes nowhere, a phone number is removed for being on the wrong account, and a new account wants a phone number that stays rate-limited. Several are frightened by messages from almost a year ago being removed without being told which: "can someone tell me what to do im scared i don't wanna lose this account".

Recovery after a hack is the next group: the password and 2FA were changed by someone else and the login email is hacked or gone, so people ask Discord to message them directly or reinstate the account.

Others ask for the rule: what "violations" for spam mean and how to avoid them, or why they were locked out three times in a month with no policy broken.

2 people ask what badges mean, and why so few of their games show.

  • How do I fix this error or setting?6
  • How do I get my account back?3
  • Why was my account banned or limited?3
  • What do the badges mean?2

@discord @discord_support My account has been limited once again. Can someone please tell me how I can avoid getting these "violations" for spam.

Wishes· 52 posts from 49 people· written 27 Oct

What do people want from Discord?

Wishes are a long tail, led by 6 people asking to link more services to a profile, 5 who want the friends sidebar hidden or switchable, and 4 asking what the new Letterboxd link does and for favourite films on the profile.

The biggest ask is more profile connections after Letterboxd: Nintendo, AniList, YouTube Music, RateYourMusic, and games with rich presence. The Letterboxd link itself draws "what does this connection do exactly?" and requests to show four favourite films, or recent and top-watched films, as a profile widget.

The friends activity sidebar draws the sharpest wording: an option to turn it off, and a complaint that minimising it only takes up space and squishes the screen next to the member list. One wants active-now to show friends rather than strangers from servers they are in.

Smaller, specific asks: the custom typing indicator rolled out to everyone; HDR screen share, and a push into streaming to take on Twitch, Kick and YouTube; an app adapted to the iPhone Duo; switching between accounts on mobile; scheduled posts; translating messages; human moderators instead of AI; screen share between PlayStation and PC; and voice rooms the way servers have text channels.

1 person keeps a daily count asking for Clyde AI to come back.

  • More services to link6
  • Hide the friends sidebar5
  • Letterboxd profile widget4
  • Bring back Clyde AI4
  • Typing indicator rollout3
  • Be a streaming platform3
